Scarlet's companion:
Whirlpool. I didn't think of it at all at first, not even after quite a few people commented on it.  But then... (oh btw, this is reffing the WoF wikia)
ZealLing:
Yes, i think you are right. Actually, I have a weak but still useful piece of evidence that favors your thinking that it is Whirlpool. Before the event in NY, Tui said somewhere (I don't remember where) on computer indirectly that she was going to bring some characters back, and said in parenthesis I hear you, Whirlpool fans!!!. This shows that she wants to keep them happy by MAYBE bringing him back. But still, I'm not really sure its Whirlpool.

Wolf the IceWing

Wolf the IceWing wrote: Why a NightWing?
Clearsight would have stolen the talisman and given it to the NightWings, the NightWings would have put it in their library, they're one of the only ones who could have it. (Unless that's why Whirlpool was an "animus expert")

ZealLing:
Wow so much in this since my 3-4 day absence...
Anyways, I have a strong feeling the companion is animus. (i cant think anything else right now. too little attention here)
(mostly just cuz- SERIOUSLY, THE DUDE HAS A MAGICAL TALISMAN IN HIS TALONS SO WHY WOULD HE NEED TO BE ANIMUS?)

Ivyvxxz:
Unless, what if its an animus who doesn't want to loose their mind, but wants to keep their powers. I mean, isn't that one of the reasons Darkstalker invented it in the first place?
(yeah, they could just make their own)

... there's more somewhere... but I'll just explain it:
  • "He shifted from shadow to moonlight, his scales rippling in strange moonlit colors," (pg 297, Moon Rising). This means that it can't be a SandWing (their scales were described as "dusty" by... uh... I think it was Fatespeaker... when they met Sunny), or a MudWing (they just don't really seem like the kind to have "rippling" scales... also, they are brown and amber colored... um...). It could be an IceWing, with rippley silver scales, or a NightWing, with... um... night-designed scales? or a SkyWing, who as far as we know, seem to glitter and shimmer... But for me, the most likely choices are a RainWing (obviously) or a SeaWing. Want an explanation about the SeaWing right? 5 words: GLOW IN THE DARK SCALES! Come on!
  • I don't think Scarlet would have made an alliance with a RainWing so quickly, seeing as she didn't seem to ever have even seen one before in The Dragonet Prophecy when she met Glory.
  • Oh man. I just slept for like, 14 hours or something, and then went to the library. Ok. back to conspiracies! And we're back again! From Family Science Days which was super exhausting and exhilarating. So. Many. People. Ok. so.
  • He obviously knew what the talisman did/does so some would use that as an argument against, but I say: He's supposedly a "magic expert". How do you think he got to be that way? Unless he's an animus too (although that is extremely unlikely, he seems devoted to Queen Coral, so he would have used his magic for the war far sooner) or just spent a lot of time observing Orca and Albatross and Fathom (If he was even alive for any of them), he knows about it from the scroll! For instance: "You must be as specific as possible. or the magic is liable to go awry and reinterpret your request in some odd way," (Darkstalker to Moon, pg 248-249, Moon Rising).

I saw a theory on one of the threads on how Morrowseer might still be alive! FYI: I'm not a Morrow fan, but it makes sense. Here it is:

"'NO!' shrieked Vengeance. His wings flapped open, but he'd barely lifted off when the four guards grabbed him. With one swift heave, before Starflight even had time to blink, they hurled the scarred dragon into the lake of lava.
   ...
Then a shape surged out of the lava-- Vengeance, screaming and trying to escape as he was boiled alive.
Deathbringer's talons yanked Starflight into the air just in time. Lava sprayed in all directions as the dying dragon flailed his wings.
'DON'T DO THIS! SAVE ME!' Vengeance howled.
The guards stepped forward with expressionless faces. They were wearing a sort of armor, including helmets and thick plates over their underbellies, and they were all carrying wicked pronged spears like the one Glory had brought back to the rainforest.
It was these spears they used to shove Vengeance back under the lava, and to hold him there until the thrashing stopped and the dark shape of the scarred dragon finally sank all the way below the bright gold-red surface and disappeared," (pg 23-24, The Dark Secret).

And:

"'You can't come to the rainforest with us,' he [Starflight] said...
   ...
'You should go,' Clay said. 'Fly across the sea, as fast as you can. Maybe you'll make it before the volcano really explodes.'
Morrowseer's expression was incredulous. 'And who's going to stop me? The three of you?'
   'Yes' Starflight said.
'And me,' said Fatespeaker's voice from behind Starflight. ...
The giant NightWing snorted, as if that only made things more amusing. 'Here's all the dragonets I want dead anyway,' he said. 'In one convenient place.'
He opened his mouth, hissing up a fiery breath.
   And then the volcano exploded.
   ...
   ...
   ...
... Morrowseer's dark figure was silhouetted against the fire for a brief, horribly bright moment, and then the huge NightWing was gone, swallowed by the volcanic explosion," (pg 284-285, The Dark Secret)

You see where I'm going with this?  We never specifically saw him die. Vengeance was able to survive in the lava for... I'm gonna say... judging by the fact that it says "finally" and how he talks... about 7 minutes? Maybe more like 4.5? It's still long enough for Morrow to surge out of the lava and fly back across the ocean-heck, even in the ocean! He just got rinsed in lava! of course he's gonna want to throw himself in the ocean, similar to how Battlewinner threw herself into the lava after being sprayed by the ice-breath. But who cares about all that? The point is that Morrowseer might still be alive. Everybody run. RUN! ;-P
