The Above World series (what's it called?? idk. That's the title of the first book.) -- book series (? trilogy?) -- there IS ROMANCE but it's handled really well and the main characters Aluna and Hoku value their longtime friendship more than his probably-romance with Calli and her mayyyyyyyybe?????? romance with Dash. They even mention it a couple of times, and the romances aren't rushed or obvious, and there's plenty of inter-character conflict, and it's overall a great read. (I haven't read the third book yet. I just finished the second) finished the third book and it was preetyty good!
Just finished The League of Unexceptional Children and. Idk. It wasn't bad. It was actually . . pretty good. Andddd idk what to say about it really? idk not like amazing whoa wings of fire good but yeah a good read. if you don't read it you're not missing out or anything though.
Last night I finished B in the World. It's kinda ehh. It started out strong, and then it kinda went into a predictable place. It's about a possibly genderfluid, maybe gender nonconforming, boy named B. It starts as just. . . him doin stuff, but then it turns into a school play book. You know, where the kid wants the main role, but the mean kid gets it, but then MC ends up learning all the lines accidentally and on performance day, antagonist gets stage fright/a broken limb/sick and so MC gets to take over. But it's a quick read (I read it in about 5-6 short sittings) and has a unique narrator (!!!). I do think it needed a better editor, though. There were a couple of times the tenses changed, and once that I noticed where there was an apostrophe in place of a quotation mark.
Read Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. It was pretty good except for one thing.
The narrator is Melody, a girl who has cerebral palsy and synesthesia. She also has a photographic memory. THE BOOK WOULD LOSE NO MERIT IF SHE DID NOT HAVE PHOTOGRAPHIC MEMORY. she could be smart without memorizing everything instantly. I promise. geez.
If you ignore that htough, it's a pretty good book.
read uhhh dealing with dragons i think,, it's REALLY GOOD. it's got girls bein pals!! and one of the girls is a DRAGON!!! and it's got adventures and wizards and schemes and lies and it's Very Good!!!!!
i defs read more books this year. but. *shrug*
oh books i read for school..
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was Very Good!! i enjoyed it greatly except for the gruesome bit near the middle, when the room goes down like an elevator. otherwise it was Awesome. it's about the patients in a mental institution and the man who arrives and shakes things up.
Catcher in the Rye was aight. it's a kid's hypermanic episode. that's basically all. there's a red hunting cap which is apparently important.
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is definitely a YA book but it was pretty good
The Book of Unknown Americans was decent, especially for YA romanceish. I didn't really love the style of storytelling, though i get why she did it that way. intersperssed through the story were little bios of the different people who lived in the building, just talking abt why they came to the US and what all happened to them. it woulda been cool if there had been a story reason for those but it didn't like culminate at the end or anything. eh.
oh back to nonschool books:
a dog's way home? if that's what it's called, it's by w. bruce cameron who wrote a dog's purpose. it's basically lassie come home and a dog's way home by bobbie pyron but with modern issues thrown in. still good tho. yea that's what it's called.
Best Foot Forward by Joan Bauer -- a neat book aboutt a girl who's Very Into her retail job at a shoestore and the internal workings of said shoestore.
i finally read the second Foxcraft book, and it's a really good series. good worldbuilding and lore and all.
